JBF sale and a PPB giveaway

For anyone who may have missed the news flash - the JBF sale is this weekend!!!  Because I consigned this time, I got to shop at noon on Thursday.  And let me tell you, I did everything in my power to be there right on time.  As usual, the sale did not disappoint!  I had a great time shopping and found a ton of great stuff for the girls.  The only bummer was that I didn't have more time to shop. :)

5T clothes for Honeygirl to grow into

4T summer stuff for Honeygirl

Some cute new summer stuff I just couldn't resist for Sweet Pea (even though we technically didn't need any of it)
Plus a wool soaker for her for $5!  And it doesn't look like it's ever been used! Score!

And there was one thing on my list I didn't find - a new diaper bag.  Back in the fall (at the JBF sale of course), I found a pink and brown Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag for $40.  I snatched that baby right up.  And I love it!  I love the features about it - it holds everything I need for cloth diapering one and potty training the other (which means lots of extra clothes).  And it has a fold out changing pad that's attached to the bag.  Super convenient!  Now, my wonderful husband doesn't carry the bag all that much, but he's really not a fan of the color scheme. So our deal was that I would look for a different one at the sale this weekend.  Unfortunately, all the good ones were gone by the time I got to the rack.  I saw some others in line checking out, but didn't score one for myself.  Bummer.

So, naturally, I came home to scour craigslist.comdiaperswappers.com, and look for any giveaways going on.  Score!  I found a giveaway that ends in a day.  So here's the link.  And here's crossing my fingers and hoping that I have just the tiniest chance at winning among the other 12000+ entries!  The winner even gets to pick the fashion from the current line.  What a dream!  If I win, I'll be picking the Misted Marseille one, I think.

Weekend away

This past weekend we had a chance to go away.  In honor of our 7th anniversary.  Without the kids. So nice!  Here are some photos from our getaway.

Lunch at the top of the Space Needle
Breakfast...pretty good food, but terrible service.  Not on my list to recommend or visit again.

The famous Pikes Place Market!  I love checking out all they have to offer!

Some of the yummy fresh produce inside the market

some of the thousands of fresh flowers at the market (and me)

More fresh produce....love how pretty it looks :)

Watching a history-making game between the Mariners and White Socks.  The 21st perfect game in baseball history, pitched by Philip Humber.

Our only photo together from the whole weekend away!

My new shoes!  They are intended to replace some other brown Mary Janes I have had since college.  Yeah, maybe it's time to get something new.

Where I Belong

I love the lyrics of this song.  They have been on my mind a lot lately.  Like, I wake up with the chorus playing in my head.  And I totally agree. I will make the most of this place while I'm here, but I'm not home yet.

Where I Belong
(by Building 429)

Sometimes it feels like I'm watching from the outside
Sometimes it feels like I'm breathing but am I alive
I will keep searching for answers that aren't here to find

All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong

So when the walls come falling down on me
And when I'm lost in the current of a raging sea
I have this blessed assurance holding me.

All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong

When the earth shakes I wanna be found in You
When the lights fade I wanna be found in You

All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong

All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong

Where I belong, where I belong
Where I belong, where I belong

I hope you have had a wonderful Sunday!

Headbands for the girls

Having two girls, we have a lot of clips, bows, and headbands around here.  I mean, there are two drawers in this house devoted to said items.  And yet there are still days when we have nothing to match the outfits the girls are wearing.  I'm not exactly sure how this can be, but it happens!  A week and a half ago, we had some family photos done by a friend of the family.  But in order for the girls to wear the outfits I had picked, they were going to need new headbands.  Unfortunately, my favorite etsy shop is not currently making any headbands.  Boo.  So I checked out pinterest and learned how to make my own!
I was wanting navy headbands for the girls.  Their outfits coordinated, but I wanted to tie them together with matching hair accessories.  This navy t-shirt was one that Honeygirl had outgrown and I didn't see myself using for Sweet Pea.  It worked perfectly!  I cut strips from the bottom of the shirt in the width I wanted the headbands to be, then sewed a single seam to make the headband the size I needed for each of the girls' heads.  Next I made the flower out of another strip of fabric I cut off the bottom and twisted.  (See this tutorial for more info.)The final step was to sew the flower on.
For me, this was a super easy project, and it turned out cute!
Sweet Pea looked pretty adorable with hers as she took a snack break in the grass.  :)

Ultimate Blog Party

Ultimate Blog Party 2012
I feel like I keep stumbling across blogs that are part of the Ultimate Blog Party, and I've gotten intrigued.  So I've decided to do something crazy and join!

I'm Anna - mama to 2 little girls and married to my best friend.  Growing up, I planned to live in a sunny, warm place.  Instead, I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains quite often.  But the rain leaves us with lush landscapes and an appreciation for the sun that I never would have otherwise had.  Plus it's where my family is. So I've come to see my life as rainy days in paradise.
I blog about daily life for us as a family.  Every once in awhile I throw in a recipe, or a craft idea.  My blog isn't something I've ever really shared with others.  I few people know it exists, but mostly I just write for my own enjoyment of it.  And to look back and see what we've survived. :)

Checking out the new Mini Murph

There is no doubt we are a Papa Murphy's Pizza family!  I grew up on it, as did my husband.  And since getting married, it has continued to be the pizza of choice for our family.  They recently came out with a new product:  the Mini Murph.  It's a personal pizza designed for kids.  You get a personal size piece of sheeted dough in a little box, plus containers of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni.  When you buy the Mini Murph, you also get a cute little temporary tattoo that any kid would be excited about. :)  So the idea behind this new product is that a kid can make their very own pizza to bake at home.  Being the Papa Murphy family that we are, we decided it would be fun to get one for Honeygirl.  Not surprisingly, it was a hit!

She was thrilled with the prospect of putting together her very own pizza.  Aunt Jenny was visiting, and Honeygirl quickly roped her in to help with the sauce.

It was fun to watch her carefully spread out all the cheese and pepperoni to make it "just right."

As you can see, she was a pretty proud little girl!

I think one of my favorite things to see was how she willingly split the pizza with Sweet Pea.  What a sweet girl!  And as you can see, there wasn't much left. :)
As we cleaned up afterwards, the only things she had to say was, "Daddy, make sure you get me a Mini Murph again next time, okay?"

1st purchase!

Honeygirl had a fun milestone today:  she made her first purchase with her own money!  A week ago Friday she got to make her first purchase ever, but it was with Grammie's money.  Today we checked out the SuperKid Resale and she brought her wallet along!  It was so fun to watch her peruse all the different toys and carefully pick out the things she liked the best.  Unfortunately, her favorite items were too expensive for her budget.
Her most favorite find was a double jogging stroller made by American Girl for the Bitty Baby twins.  When I informed her that it was too expensive for her, she said, "I'm just checkin' it out, Mama."  She proceeded to put a baby in and push it around as she looked for another option.  So cute to watch!
In the end, she chose a baby doll that makes a sucking motion and sound when it's pacifier is placed in it's mouth.  I'm already getting tired of the noise, but she loves this new baby.  (No surprise there!)  And it was super sweet to watch the cashier ring her up and wait for her to pull out her four dollar bills from her wallet.  Honeygirl carefully counted them and traded them for her new baby.  Ah, it made me proud to watch her...she's growing up!

Upcoming consignment sales

Anyone else get super excited about kids consignment sales?  I know I do!  I went to my first one just before Honeygirl was born and I was instantly addicted.  Last year was the first time I consigned some of our stuff that we didn't need anymore.  That turned out to be just as great of an experience!  Not only did I get to shop for new things we needed, but I made a little over $100 off the things we didn't need.  Yay!  It's that time of year again and all my favorite sales are just around the corner.  I can't wait to see what I find this year!
Super Kid Resale   April 12-15  opens at 9am each morning
Just Between Friends  April 27-29

Here are some of my finds from previous sales:

Great outfits last fall for Sweet Pea
 Dresses for Honeygirl last fall

Three Things

What I learned today:
1.  The dose of marijuana in a mom's breast milk is up to eightfold what is found in her blood if she chooses to smoke while nursing.  Holy cow!  If you think the mom is stoned, just think how messed up her kiddo must be!
2. Being part of a flash mob is just as fun as I thought it would be (even though I'm pretty sure I looked like a dork and didn't quite get the motions all right).
3.  It is possible to swaddle a newborn, hold him/her completely vertical, and latch them on the breast.  I'd like to call this new hold I observed today "the leach."  (disclaimer: not a hold I would recommend)

Potty Trials V.2.2

Good news!  I think there is definitely something to be said for this earlier attempt at potty learning.  Over the course of the past week, Sweet Pea has started to let me know when she needs to be changed.  She's aware of what her body is doing!  She is consistently informing me when she's poopy, and she is occasionally even asking to sit on the toilet.  This morning we had our first mid-morning success.  I am hopefully optimistic that this is going to be much different this time around.  If this keeps up, I'm going to have to get up the courage to switch from diapers to some trainers.  (insert the face of a nervous mama here!)  Good thing we have some wonderful Super Undies in transit to us even now!
